Use ~/.cursor/mcp.json for all projects, or .cursor/mcp.json in a repository for that project only. Don’t commit keys in a project file; use OAuth or ${env:...} instead.

1. Add the servers

Create API keys at crakseo.com/app/settings/keys. Never commit a real key.

2. Check the connection

Open Cursor Settings > MCP. Each CrakSEO server shows a green dot and its tool count once it’s connected.

3. Make the first call

Open the Agent chat and send the prompt below. Cursor asks before running each tool unless you’ve allowed it. First verify the SEO data connection with a free call:
If dataCallsEnabled is false, paid data calls are unavailable; adding credits does not enable them. Continue with the free Search Console tools instead. If enabled, review current pricing and get permission before the research call below. Ask your AI:
The client asks permission to call get_keyword_search_volume with arguments like these:
Expected output when your account has API credits (the shape is exact; the numbers here are placeholders):
Expected output on a new account with no credits: a tool error with isError: true whose text is the JSON below. You aren’t charged, and the AI should send you to crakseo.com/app/indexing/credits instead of retrying:
For a free first call, connect the Search Console server instead and ask: “List my Search Console properties, then show my top 10 queries for the last 28 days.”

Troubleshooting

  • Red dot or “Error”: open the server’s log from the MCP settings page. A 401 means sign-in is missing or the key is wrong.
  • Too many tools: Cursor limits how many tools it sends to the model. Connect focused servers (for example Keyword Research MCP) instead of the SEO MCP, or turn off tools you don’t use in the MCP settings.
