IndexNow is an open protocol for telling participating search engines that URLs on your site changed. One submission is shared between participating engines, including Bing, Yandex, Seznam and Naver. Google does not use IndexNow. The URL Indexing MCP exposes IndexNow as a free tool, submit_urls_to_indexnow, so your AI can notify engines right after it publishes or updates a page.

How it works

  1. Add the site as a project. The tool only submits URLs on domains that are projects in your CrakSEO account. Other URLs come back under skipped with the reason.
  2. Host a key file. IndexNow proves you control the site with a key file at the site root, for example https://example.com/<key>.txt. If the file isn’t live, the result says so and links to the IndexNow setup page in the app (/app/indexing/setup). Sites connected through the CrakSEO WordPress plugin get the key file automatically.
  3. Submit URLs. The tool sends up to 100 URLs per call to the IndexNow API, grouped by host.
  4. Check results. Engines decide whether and when to crawl. Use Bing Webmaster Tools stats to see crawl activity.

Example

structuredContent
ok: true means the IndexNow API received the URLs. It doesn’t mean the pages were crawled or indexed.

Rules

  • Only submit URLs on hosts you control. The key file is how engines check that.
  • Submit when a page is added, updated or removed, not on a schedule.
  • For Google, use sitemaps and Search Console. See Google Indexing API alternative.
