# ChatGPT SEO MCP quickstart

> Connect ChatGPT to CrakSEO's SEO data and Search Console MCP servers as a connector, make the first call and check the output.

Custom connectors need a ChatGPT plan that supports developer mode, and a workspace admin may have to allow them. Once the CrakSEO app is listed in the ChatGPT app directory, install it from there instead.

## 1. Create the connector

In ChatGPT, open **Settings > Apps & Connectors > Advanced settings**, turn on **Developer mode**, then **Create** a connector with:

Choose **OAuth** and sign in to CrakSEO when prompted. If the client only accepts a header, use `Authorization: Bearer YOUR_CRAKSEO_API_KEY` with a key from [crakseo.com/app/settings/keys](https://crakseo.com/app/settings/keys).

## 2. Check the connection

Start a new chat, open the tools menu, turn on the CrakSEO connector and ask: "What can the CrakSEO connector do?" ChatGPT should describe the SERP, keyword and Search Console tools.

## 3. Make the first call

ChatGPT shows a confirmation before calls that change data, such as sitemap submission. Read-only data calls run after you send the prompt.

First verify the SEO data connection with a free call:

If `dataCallsEnabled` is false, paid data calls are unavailable; adding credits does not enable them. Continue with the free Search Console tools instead. If enabled, review current pricing and get permission before the research call below.

Ask your AI:

The client asks permission to call `get_keyword_search_volume` with arguments like these:

**Expected output** on a new account with no credits: a tool error with `isError: true` whose text is the JSON below. You aren't charged, and the AI should send you to [crakseo.com/app/indexing/credits](https://crakseo.com/app/indexing/credits) instead of retrying:

For a free first call, connect the Search Console server instead and ask: "List my Search Console properties, then show my top 10 queries for the last 28 days."
