# Parasites

> Find third-party pages that rank for your keywords, track competitors and send opportunities to an agent.

A **parasite** is a third-party site you can publish on (Reddit, Quora, Medium, LinkedIn, YouTube, podcasts, directories and so on) that ranks on Google for your keywords. CrakSEO finds them by scanning Google page 1 for the keywords you choose.

## Scans

Tick keywords on **Research > Keywords** and choose **Scan SERPs**, or press **Refresh now** on a keyword's SERP page.

* Each scan reads Google page 1: every block in order, including the AI Overview and its cited sources, the map pack, People also ask, discussions and forums, organic results and videos. Results arrive after a few minutes.
* Every URL is labelled as your site, a tracked competitor, a parasite type (forums, Q\&A, self-publishing, social, video and podcasts, hosted blogs, documents, syndication, directories, reviews, contributor and editorial, marketplaces) or an ordinary site. Rules label known platforms first; domains they can't label are classified by AI once and remembered. Use **Mark as...** on any result to set your own label, which wins everywhere for your project.
* Scans are opt-in and budgeted (300 search requests per day by default). A scan of the same keyword within 24 hours reuses the stored result.
* Onboarding offers a first scan as an optional step.

## The Parasites tab

**Research > Parasites** (`/app/keywords?tab=parasites`) lists every parasite site across your scanned keywords, grouped by platform with its logo, type, keyword count, total search volume and best position. Filter by type with the chips at the top.

* **Reddit & Quora** (`&type=threads`) lists threads worth answering, with **Draft answer**. It replaces the old Reddit & Quora page; see [Social](https://docs.crakseo.com/product/seo-toolkit/social.md#community).
* **Podcasts** (`&type=podcasts`) ranks your keywords into episode ideas, with **Create episode**. It replaces the old podcast Opportunities page; see [Podcasts](https://docs.crakseo.com/product/seo-toolkit/podcasts.md).
* Pick any opportunity and **Send to profile**: it becomes a task for that profile to publish on the site.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Scans and the Parasites tab are available to everyone. Posting on parasite sites is available on legacy plans: **Draft answer** needs off-site posting, and **Send to profile** needs both agents and off-site posting. New workspaces don't include them; workspaces created before the CrakSEO launch keep them.

## Competitors and weekly tracking

**Settings > Project > Competitors** (`/app/settings/project/competitors`):

* **Competitors**: add up to four domains with optional labels, and set their order. They appear as columns on the keyword list, in the rank chart and on page 1 of each keyword.
* **Page maps**: paste one `competitor URL, your URL[, keyword]` per line to compare matching pages in the **Page vs page** view.
* **Weekly rank tracking** (owners only): scans every active keyword once a week so the rank trends fill in. Turning it on needs your explicit consent to the cost estimate shown, and a monthly request ceiling caps it; raising the ceiling asks for consent again. Weekly tracking does not use up the daily manual scan allowance.

A scan costs about $0.0006 per keyword, and at most $0.0012 when Google shows an AI Overview. Weekly tracking of 100 keywords is about 434 scans a month: roughly $0.26, and at most $0.52. Your rank past page 1 comes from Search Console at no cost.

Agents connected over MCP can manage competitors, page maps and labels, and read stored SERPs and rank history; they never start a paid scan (see the [MCP tool reference](https://docs.crakseo.com/product/mcp/tool-reference.md)).
